Fashion A Better World

Source My Garment believes in manufacturing environmental-friendly clothing. We provide innovative suggestions on reducing impact right through from the design to logistics. Like any good product design, clothing development, production and distribution can be accomplished in a better, smarter, and more socially and environmentally sustainable way. From raw fiber to finished garments, sustainability is something can be woven into fashion – we can help it happen.

Materials

For a label to be truly sustainable and environmentally friendly, your raw materials – from fabrics to trims and packaging – need to have a low environmental impact. Sourcing all the different elements and ensuring their compliance to your ethical standards can take time – however, Source My Garment can take this off your “to do” list and ensure that all elements meet the high standards and ethical practices of your label.

Packaging

Our take on packaging: Limit the use. Then re-use, and repurpose. Most garments that enter our country are sealed in a non-biodegradable plastic bag which can take up to 400 years to decompose. We do things differently. To reduce waste Source My Garment ship garments from overseas in bulk. By avoiding extra plastic in the packaging, both energy and landfill space are saved. Working with manufacturers,we also encourage the use of smallest amount of packaging possible to deliver items safely. And remember: re-using and repurposing packaging material saves more energy than recycling.

Low-Impact Fabric Dyes

When it comes to coloring fabrics, low impact dyes are our preferred option. Non-toxic, low-impact fiber-reactive dyes are able to provide us with a diverse palette of vibrant colors, yet create less toxic waste and use less heat, energy and water. All dyes and chemicals used in dyeing and finishing processes meet basic requirements of GOTS in regard to toxicity and biodegradability. Critical inputs such as toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents and genetically modified organisms (GMO) are banned. GOTS also prohibits the use of dyes containing chemicals such astoloudine and benzedine.

Organic Cotton

We use only certified organic cotton, grown using sustainable farming practices that maintain and replenish soil fertility without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. These organic methods help maintain the health and well-being of all those involved in the growing and manufacturing process by creating a chemical-free environment. As well consumers can appreciate that in choosing an “organic” cotton garment they will be making a healthy choice – for themselves and the environment.

Innovation

Source My Garment is dedicated to continuing research and development of innovative practices and ideas in sustainable apparel manufacturing.

Health And Safety Compliance

Children wear brands we assist and manufacture destined the USA and Canada must comply with all industry and federal requirements. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) aimed at protecting children 12 years of age and under from all products containing lead and phthalates. Companies importing into the US require “General Conformity Certificates” (GCCs). These certificates must be issued based on garments & trims(snaps & zippers), passing test results from a CSPC-recognized third-party testing lab. Each applicable garment must also contain a stitched-in tracking label with a purchase order number. Small companies that do less than $1 million in yearly sales and produce less than 7,500 pieces of an item can register with the CPSC as a small batch manufacturer. Depending on what you produce you may not have to get 3rd party testing. However, you still have to be sure that items you are selling do not contain lead or phthalates.

Certifications

We source cotton that is certified according to Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS). It is the most widely recognized international standards covering all aspects of textile processing and environmentally-socially responsible manufacturing.
